New Logo!

Just a little update:  What we have here is the brand new logo for Wednesday Theology, designed by the wonderful John S. Troutman.

Troutman, Troutman...why does that name sound vaguely familiar?  Well, Troutman is the creator of The Gospel of Carol, a comic which I absolutely love.  Plus, it was the main focus of my AAR paper I presented last year, The Disruption of Christian Patriarchy in The Gospel of Carol and Other Comic Books.

So, a big thanks to John for the logo, and be sure to check out his Troutcave Comics site.  His books, including the Gospel of Carol, are also available on ComiXology.  I highly recommend it!

2013

Dear Avid Fan Base,

I am sorry.

I apologize for being away for so long. There was this thing. I wrote a paper. I presented it at an academic conference. It was awesome.

But I got distracted. I got sidetracked and overwhelmed and skipped updating Wednesday Theology one day. And then the next. And it went like that until now. Until today. Until 2013.

We're back, baby!

New year. New logo (look at that thing! Courtesy of Josh Bailey. Look at it!). New content.

Same old fun, theological insanity.

I'm getting the band back together, so to speak. Updates will be more frequent (as in there will actually be updates). We can all continue 66 Days of Preachers. I was afraid that would get left behind, and it was a strategic move so I could get everything done in time for the presentation, but afterward it was just my own dang laziness. Again, I apologize.

Soon I'll give a more detailed account of the conference, what I learned, how it inspired me, and what I'm going to do next. Yes, there will be some interesting stuff coming up next.

There's a fire inside, a passion for comics and theology that can't die out, even if I wanted it. But I don't want it to die out. Because this is what I do. And in 2013 I'm going to be doing a lot of Wednesday Theology.

Won't you join me?

Happy New Year!

Update: Ailment Drama

Hey there, AFB (that's Avid Fan Base to those in the know. To those not in the know, the Avid Fan Base is the fictional readership that reads this blog). So those 66 Days of Preacher, huh? Good fun, right? And they sort of just stopped without any warning. Yeah, about that...

It's still happening. They will continue. There will just need to be a delay. Time restraints demand that I breeze ahead through the rest of the issues with great swiftness, meaning I must postpone taking the time to write up a summary and musing of the theological implications of each issue. But when this other project I'm tackling (more about that soon) is more under control, I'll get back to where I left off and the insanity of the tale of Jesse Custer and crew can continue.

Oh, and the ailment drama. Yeah, I have succumbed to a cold. And anyone that knows me is well aware that my immune system sucks (and may actually hate me). What will be a simple 24 hour bug for most people tends to knock me out for a solid two weeks. All this means is that I'm falling even more behind. With everything!

But that's life, don't you know? Only make plans if you want said plans to be ruined.

So the plan is (see what I did there?) that within the next few days Preacher will return, as will a series of Daily Quotes that I have lined up. Even if I'm not writing and posting, I'm always reading and always thinking. I'm always doing Wednesday Theology.

Can't shut it off.

Won't shut it off.

Site News; Apologies

You have probably noticed by now that there has been an interruption in the regular schedule of updates to this blog. I sincerely apologize for this. My schedule this past week has been quite odd. Plus, there's that whole situation detailed in the first two installments of MitchWords.

Things may be slow for awhile, but Wednesday Theology is not going away. Hopefully it never goes away. Think of this as a transitional period. I may not be flooding this blog with posts of devilishly clever writing, but I am engrossed in reading and deeply reflecting on Wednesday Theology. I fear that the blog may be getting bogged down with my personal life. But then part of me is starting to think that this blog is actually being illuminated by the revelations of my life. Perhaps it is a way for these ideas to surpass pure academia and exhibit the way it can affect a life.

My life.

Maybe I no longer simply do Wednesday Theology, but live it as well. That means a lot more of me must be infused with this blog. That should be a frightening thought for everyone.

As I write this, I'm sipping delicious Cinnamon Spice coffee from a Batman coffee mug. The Batman symbol means various things to various people. Over the past few months it primarily reminds me of the First Truth of Batman. I know I've mentioned that several times. It's probably getting old. But to me it is still fresh and new every time I am reminded of it.

I have friends. And I need them.

Such is Batman. Such is Mitch.

Site News

I don't usually post things on a weekend, but this hasn't exactly been a normal week for me or Wednesday Theology, has it? So let's keep the ball rolling.

I really just wanted to say, Wow, you guys are incredible. I really felt like I was stretching myself with the first column of MitchWords, but the response has been encouraging. It quickly shot up to the top with the most views any post on this blog has ever received. So far. You can see the top 5 viewed posts to the left of this chunk of text you're currently reading under the heading "Popular Posts."

The reaction has been extremely supportive and positive, which makes me think that I should definitely continue MitchWords and trying to give you some insight into what goes on in the life of the writer of Wednesday Theology. Maybe the way to make Wednesday Theology more accessible to others is to make myself more accessible to others. For me, that is a scary thought. But it's 2012. My old world has crashed and burned. This year might as well be a year filled with new and scary things.

Also, if you'll look to your right (and maybe down a bit) you'll notice a spiffy little carousel widget that shows off some books that I've recently read or am currently reading. Check them out if you want. I don't expect you to buy them (or even inspect them closely), but seeing what I'm reading might help you understand what I'm writing. Plus, it looks cool.

Once again I wish to express my gratitude to everyone who has been praying for me and putting up with me in this disconcerting time. I've heard words of sincere comfort from folks that I haven't talked to in some time. I reach out to you and you reach out to me. Amazing how that works.

Thank you.

Site News

The updates for today are going to be a tad bit delayed. There should be a daily quote and daily Batman up sometime this evening. My apologies for such a delay.

Mostly this is due to my usual lack of organization. But I'm also currently quite engrossed in From Hell by Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell. If you've read it, you understand. If you haven't read it, you should. It is one of those great works that could potentially convince even the most determined skeptic that graphic literature is, in fact, literature. It is an impressive, marvelous work.

Maybe I'll get around to writing a review of it.

I apologize again for the lack of new content for the time being. If you want, take this as an opportunity to go back and read any Wednesday Theology posts that you might have missed in the past. You just might enjoy it. Or become incredibly confused or even irate. I never know how people will react to things.
