New Logo!

Just a little update:  What we have here is the brand new logo for Wednesday Theology, designed by the wonderful John S. Troutman.

Troutman, Troutman...why does that name sound vaguely familiar?  Well, Troutman is the creator of The Gospel of Carol, a comic which I absolutely love.  Plus, it was the main focus of my AAR paper I presented last year, The Disruption of Christian Patriarchy in The Gospel of Carol and Other Comic Books.

So, a big thanks to John for the logo, and be sure to check out his Troutcave Comics site.  His books, including the Gospel of Carol, are also available on ComiXology.  I highly recommend it!

Kindness is Worth the Risk

I want to thank the person who showed me that a kinder universe was out there…
And that kindness is worth the risk.

Video Games and the American Academy of Religion

The September 2016 issue of the Journal of the American Academy of Literature contains a rather intriguing article about religious studies and video games. Entitled “Gaming Religionworlds: Why Religions Studies Should Pay Attention to Religion in Gaming,” the article is actually a “roundtable” that consists of several short pieces from several authors.

What this article is not: an in-depth, widespread exploration of theological themes and narratives within video games.

What this article is: essentially several authors detailing that preliminary scholarship over the past few years concerning religion and gaming confirms the legitimacy and relevancy of the scholarship. They then, in their own ways, propose ways and means that such scholarship should and must continue.

I Refuse to Strike You Back

Dank Memes

I think I may have found a cause for my perpetual lack of success.  No, it's not from my terrible history of producing content on a reliable schedule.  No, sir, it's because I am lacking in the dank memes!  Think about it.  Facebook is flooded with people sharing pictures of egotistical pastors from super wealthy megachurches with text over their pictures espousing sappy, inspirational, yet ultimately hollow and meaningless soundbites.  Surely I can exploit the same trend for my own selfish gain!

Share at your own discretion, or peril!

Rooting For You Anyway

I know a lot of things about you, Garth.

Preach Peace and Practice War

But I wanted to be closer to the Christians.  They talk in riddles.  They preach peace and love in the midst of performing incredible violence.
There's a structure, a purpose to what they do that is beyond my ken.  They're changing Norskk, changing it with words and with iron and with blood.  I need to understand them better.
